Domain Northside Turned 10. Which Rock Rose Originals Are Still There?

October 22, 2026

Between Suitsupply and Vuori at Domain Northside there's now a booth called The ReDial. It's built to look like a photo booth crossed with a time machine. You step in, take a picture and learn a little of the district's history. It's part of the 10th anniversary, and Community Impact reported that a second photo spot sits next to YETI.

That booth makes a useful starting point, because a lot of Rock Rose looks different than it did in 2016. Once you check the opening roster against what's open now, there's a clear pattern. The places built for evenings mostly stayed. The local daytime shops left early. And 2026, the anniversary year, has brought more change to the street than any year before it.

The roster from September 2016

Domain Northside held its grand opening on Sept. 30, 2016. That day Community Impact described it as 600,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, anchored by Nordstrom, the Archer Hotel Austin and RH's four-story gallery. Council Member Leslie Pool declared it Domain Northside Day.

Rock Rose had opened before the rest. Its locally owned businesses started opening in January 2016, and the same article listed them: Lavaca Street Bar, Turf & Surf Po-Boy, Birds Barbershop, Raven + Lily, Apanas Coffee & Beer, The Dogwood, Jack & Ginger's, 77 Degrees Rooftop, Tarka Indian Kitchen, Salvation Pizza and Kung Fu Saloon. At the time, Eater Austin's guide to Rock Rose presented the street as a new entertainment district for the north side.

Here's how that list looks in fall 2026:

  • Still on Rock Rose: Lavaca Street Bar, Jack & Ginger's, 77 Degrees Rooftop, Birds Barbershop
  • Still anchoring the district: Nordstrom with Bazille inside, the Archer Hotel, RH
  • Gone before 2020: Apanas Coffee & Beer, Raven + Lily
  • Gone in 2026: Kung Fu Saloon, The Dogwood
  • No longer listed on Rock Rose: Tarka Indian Kitchen

The places built for evenings held on

Two Rock Rose bars made it into the 10th anniversary announcement by name. The September release, as reported by Community Impact, lists Jack & Ginger's and Lavaca Street Bar as part of the Rock Rose District. 77 Degrees still posts hours for its rooftop at 11500 Rock Rose Ave.

Birds Barbershop isn't a bar, but it was one of the original Rock Rose tenants and still lists its Domain Northside shop on its locations page. Birds has also kept moving farther into Northwest Austin. A new location opened Sept. 25, 2026, at 9900 W. Parmer Lane, according to Community Impact's October business roundup.

The anchors have stayed the same, though one restaurant inside changed. Nordstrom's store page still lists the Domain Northside location, and Bazille is still on level two. RH, The Gallery is still in the Domain Northside directory at 11720 Domain Blvd. At the Archer, Second Bar + Kitchen served for the last time on New Year's Eve 2022, and AKB opened in the space on Jan. 25, 2023, Eater Austin reported.

The daytime shops went first

The first two Rock Rose originals to close were the ones most likely to see you at 10 a.m. on a weekday.

Apanas Coffee & Beer closed both of its Austin locations, the Rock Rose shop included, by April 23, 2018. Community Impact reported that the owner didn't plan to reopen or relocate. Raven + Lily, a boutique with a coworking space, closed its Domain Northside store in early January 2019 and kept a Fredericksburg location and its online shop, according to Community Impact.

Both had been open less than three years. In the same stretch, the bars that opened with them kept going, and most are still there.

Another original has left more quietly. Tarka Indian Kitchen's locations page was updated July 23, 2026, and still lists several Austin-area restaurants, but Rock Rose isn't one of them.

2026 brought the most change since opening

For seven years after Raven + Lily left, the original evening lineup stayed mostly in place. Then most of this year's changes landed on the same street.

Feb. 2: Kung Fu Saloon closed. It had opened with the district in 2016, and MySA reported that more than 800 people reacted to its farewell post. Under that post, a commenter wrote that they'd heard Domain rent had gone up significantly, and the bar answered, "this exactly."

Early April: The Dogwood closed for good at 11420 Rock Rose Ave., Community Impact reported.

June 3: Little Woodrow's held its grand opening in the former Dogwood building at 11420 Rock Rose Ave., Ste. 130. The Dogwood's website now sends visitors to the new tenant.

Late July: Longines, the Swiss watch brand, opened at 11700 Rock Rose Ave., Ste. 156, according to Community Impact.

Aug. 17: Baldinucci Pizza Romana opened at 11501 Rock Rose Ave., Ste. 146, selling salads, sandwiches and pizza by the slice. Community Impact noted that this is a newer location of the restaurant.

The Dogwood switch is the clearest example of what has held steady. One bar left and another moved into the same building two months later. Rock Rose is still the district's evening street. What's changed is who owns the spots. When the anniversary release listed dining options, it named Little Woodrow's, Velvet Taco, Perry's Steakhouse & Grill and Culinary Dropout next to the two original Rock Rose bars.

The daytime side turned into a brand showroom

Daytime shopping on Rock Rose has moved the other way. The Apanas and Raven + Lily era is over, and the mix now leans toward first-to-market and direct-to-consumer brands. In the anniversary release, Northwood Retail president Ward Kampf said Domain Northside now includes "80 first-to-market tenants and more than 30 direct-to-consumer brands," as quoted by Community Impact. The current names the release highlights are Apple, Brandy Melville, YETI, Tecovas, Nike and Skims.

Even the anniversary photo spots sit by retail brands. The ReDial is between Suitsupply and Vuori, and the second spot is beside YETI. Alison Goodman, the center's senior marketing director, described it in the release as a place where people "celebrate milestones, discover something new, meet with friends, grab dinner and drinks."

What's on the way

Announced arrivals follow the same pattern as the daytime side:

  1. Hill House Home is expected to open at 3211 Palm Way, Ste. 126, in early 2027. It will be the women's and children's apparel brand's third Texas store, Community Impact reported.
  2. Dolce & Gabbana is headed to The Domain across the way at 11600 Century Oaks Terrace, Ste. 128. No opening date has been announced.

On the evening side, the former Kung Fu Saloon space is the open question. No replacement had been announced as of mid-October. According to the anniversary release, the center expects more tenants, events and programming after the milestone.

If you were around on opening day in 2016, a Saturday night at Lavaca Street Bar or Jack & Ginger's will feel familiar. A weekday morning on the same block looks very different, because the coffee shop and boutique from opening year have been replaced by national brands that hadn't been in Austin before.

At Better Broker, Texas Realty, we follow how places like Rock Rose change, because over time those changes shape daily life on the streets around them. If you're thinking about what the next ten years of the Domain could mean for a home nearby, we're glad to talk it through with you, with no pressure.
